It Takes GUTS to Clean
a Closet
Here is a great method to use for
cleaning out a closet, a drawer, a file folder, or most anything. It is
quick and it works.
First, take everything out. Put it on
the floor, a table or the bed. This will help you to really see what
you've got and will entice you to finish quickly so that the mess is
cleared up. Then, clean out the empty space. This will allow you to put
things back as you sort.
Moving as quickly as you can, sort the
items into the following containers:
G -
Give away or sell. Mark a
bag, box or other container with GIVE. Don't put things in GIVE that you
wouldn't give to a friend. Only make a SELL container if you really,
really will be having a yard sale. If so, price the items as you go.
U - Unsure.
Instead of agonizing over something, just set it aside in an
"unsure" container. When you're done, seal it, mark it with
the date and store it in the basement or garage. If you didn't go into
it after 6 months, then give it away.
T - Toss.
Use a garbage bag and toss items directly into it. Whew!
S - Store.
Items that you intend to keep can be put back into the drawer or closet.
Because it is clean and empty, it's easy to decide how to store things.
When you are done sorting, trash the
Toss pile, give the Giveaways and set aside the Unsures. Pretty
painless, huh?
